Terms of permitted use of BIS statistics
The statistics published by the BIS are a unique source of information about the structure of and activity in the global financial system. Most of the data sets rely on national statistics as communicated to the BIS by central banks and other national authorities and are compiled in cooperation with them.
The use of the statistics is unrestricted, provided that:
- if the statistics are reproduced, the BIS must be cited in your publication or product as the source of the statistics;
- if the statistics will be translated into another language, a statement must be included in your publication or product that the translation is not an official BIS translation;
- your use of the statistics must not be potentially misleading, for example by implying endorsement or affiliation with the BIS or any body affiliated with the BIS;
- if the statistics will be used in a commercial publication or product, their inclusion in the publication or product will not result in any additional charge to subscribers or other users;
- the BIS does not warrant or guarantee the accuracy, completeness or fitness for any contemplated purpose of any statistics on this website. Under no circumstances shall the BIS be liable for any loss, damage, liability or expense suffered in connection with reliance by any person on any such statistics; and
- nothing in these statistics shall be construed as containing any investment recommendation or advice.
No other use is permissible.
The BIS reserves the right to alter these terms at any time.
BIS data for developers
The BIS provides an application programming interface (API) based on the SDMX RESTful web services specification to facilitate access to the BIS statistics. Documentation about the API can be found here: https://stats.bis.org/api-doc/v2/
Use of the APIs constitutes agreement by users of the APIs ("Users") with the following terms and conditions:
- APIs are made available on an "as-is" basis. In particular, but without limitation, the BIS disclaims all warranties as to an API's compatibility with Users' hardware or software and does not warrant or guarantee the accuracy, completeness or fitness for any contemplated purpose of the APIs. Under no circumstances shall the BIS be liable for any loss, damage, liability or expense suffered in connection with the use of the APIs and reliance by any person on the underlying statistics accessed through an API.
- For the avoidance of doubt, the BIS accepts no obligation to provide technical, administrative or other support in connection with APIs or for any other purpose. The BIS may decide to suspend or terminate the provision of the APIs and API-accessible statistics at any time.
- The BIS may release updated versions of the APIs from time to time and at its sole discretion. Once the BIS releases updated versions, previous APIs may no longer function properly, and Users therefore agree, for each API, to use the most up-to-date version available.
- Users may not to modify, distribute, decompile, disassemble, reverse engineer or perform any similar action on the APIs or any of their portions or components.
- The BIS reserves the right to limit or suspend any User's IP address access to the APIs at any time and without notice for any reason, including if the BIS determines that Users are using or are attempting to use the APIs and/or the underlying BIS statistics in violation of these terms and conditions. The BIS reserves the right to monitor the usage of the APIs.
- These terms and conditions may be updated from time to time by the BIS, in which case the Users have to adapt their usage accordingly.
No other use is permissible.
The BIS reserves the right to alter these terms at any time.
Disclaimer

- The web service complies with the SDMX RESTful v2.1.0 specification
